Quick response from rescuers and fishermen allowed the animals to return to their natural habitat
In the federal territory of Sirius, a successful operation was carried out to rescue two dolphins that were caught in fishing nets near the Imereti Port. Thanks to the prompt actions of the "Delpha" dolphin rescue center and the fishing brigade, the animals were freed and able to return to the open sea.
The distress signal was received on the "Delpha" center's hotline. Two young Azov dolphins (harbor porpoises) had become entangled in a fishing trap and could not escape on their own. For young individuals, such a situation presents a serious danger, as prolonged entrapment in nets can lead to injuries or death.
Volunteers from the center immediately contacted the border service, after which a fishing brigade promptly went to sea. The rescue operation was carried out with all precautions to avoid damaging the nets and harming the dolphins.
Experts note that stationary nets installed close to the shore usually do not pose a danger to adult dolphins, but for young individuals, they can become a real trap.
