Interview with the Founder: From PDD to "Dolphin Hub" — The Transformation of the "People — Dialogues with Dolphins" Project

Iskandar, why did you decide to change the project's name?
You know, the abbreviation PDD Global was convenient in the early stages, but over time, I realized it didn’t convey the true essence of our mission. "People — Dialogues with Dolphins" is not just a name; it’s a philosophy. We’re building a bridge between two intelligent species, and that should be clear immediately, without decoding abbreviations.
Dolphin Hub for the Russian-speaking audience and Dolphin Hub for the international one are names that speak for themselves. When someone sees these names, they instantly understand: this is the place for everything about dolphins.
What makes your platform unique?
Today, Dolphin Hub is the world’s first global platform that integrates science, ecology, and culture to study dolphins and protect marine ecosystems. We’re not just collecting data — we’re creating an ecosystem of knowledge.
Imagine: in one place, you can find the latest scientific research on dolphin behavior, learn about ancient Greek myths where dolphins saved sailors, explore modern environmental challenges, and get practical guidelines for ethical interactions with these incredible creatures.
Our uniqueness lies in five key sections:
Science: From neurobiology to acoustic research
Ecology: Protecting marine ecosystems and addressing climate change
Culture: Dolphins in art, literature, and mythologies worldwide
Education: Programs for children, students, and professionals
Practical Guidelines: How to interact with dolphins in the wild
How has the project’s positioning changed?
We used to position ourselves as a popular science platform. Now, we’re a global interaction platform. These are fundamentally different approaches.
A platform implies that we primarily create the content. A hub is a living ecosystem where everyone can contribute. A marine biologist from New Zealand publishes research, an artist from Italy shares their work, a schoolchild from Russia asks a question, and an ecologist from Japan answers it.
We’ve become a focal point for everyone connected to dolphins — from academic researchers to ordinary nature enthusiasts.
Tell us about the database of international organizations.
This is one of our key features! We’ve created the most comprehensive catalog of organizations working with dolphins worldwide, from major international foundations to small local initiatives.
A researcher in Brazil can connect with colleagues in Australia, a student in Russia can find an exchange program in the USA, and an ecologist in Europe can partner with collaborators in Asia. We’re breaking down barriers between continents and languages.
What challenges does this positioning bring?
The main challenge is the scale of responsibility. When you call yourself the "world’s first global platform," you take on obligations to the entire global community. Every section must be of the highest quality, the information reliable, and the approach scientifically sound.
The second challenge is multilingualism and multiculturalism. Dolphins live in every ocean, are studied on every continent, and inspire legends in various cultures. We need to account for these differences and be accessible to audiences from any country.
How do you plan to develop the Hub further?
We have ambitious plans! A key focus is the "One Heritage" ecological campaign, a global initiative to protect marine ecosystems, with dolphins as indicators of ocean health.
We’re systematizing global information and building a community where everyone can contribute. As our slogan says: "Two minds — one planet."
What would you like to say to our readers?
Dolphin Hub is more than just an information resource. It’s a movement of people who understand that the planet’s future depends on how we treat its inhabitants.
Dolphins are a mirror in which we can see the best qualities of intelligent life: sociality, playfulness, mutual help, and curiosity. By studying them, we better understand ourselves.
I invite everyone to https://dolphins.studio — let’s create a future where humans and dolphins coexist in harmony!
