Restoration activities of water bodies in the Volga-Akhtuba floodplain are ongoing under the national project "Ecology." By the end of 2025, four water bodies are planned to be restored: Lakes Varezhka and Peschanoe, as well as the Shulyashka and Kletsky eriks. These efforts aim to improve the hydrological regime and ecological condition of the region.
Since 2025, activities have continued under the new national project "Ecological Well-being" and the federal program "Water of Russia." By the end of 2030, it is planned to restore an additional 44 water bodies and construct 74 water control structures.
The Volga-Akhtuba floodplain is a unique natural complex between the Volga and Akhtuba rivers, performing important ecological functions and serving as a habitat for many species of flora and fauna. The implementation of activities under the national project "Ecology" contributes to the preservation and restoration of this ecosystem, improving the living conditions of local residents and promoting regional development.
