International Mother Earth Day: A Call To Action To Save Our Planet

The ecological crisis requires united efforts from all humanity to restore ecosystems

International Mother Earth Day, celebrated on April 22, serves as a reminder that our planet is sending us alarming signals. Nature today is suffering from numerous problems caused by human activities: pollution of oceans with plastic, acidification of water bodies, extreme weather events, devastating forest fires, floods, and record-intense hurricanes in the Atlantic Ocean that have affected millions of people worldwide.

The destruction of natural systems is occurring at an accelerated pace due to climate change, anthropogenic impacts, and unacceptable practices that disrupt biodiversity. Among the main threats are uncontrolled deforestation, changes in land use, implementation of intensive methods in agriculture and livestock farming, and poaching.

Ecosystems are the foundation of all life on Earth, and their health is directly linked to the health of the planet and humanity. Restoring damaged ecosystems can be the key to solving global problems such as poverty, climate change, and preventing mass casualties.

In 2021, the UN launched the Decade on Ecosystem Restoration, which aims to halt and reverse the processes of destruction of natural ecosystems. However, success can only be achieved through joint actions of the entire global community.

International Mother Earth Day calls on everyone to recognize their responsibility to the planet and its ecosystems. The world needs a more sustainable economy that works for the benefit of both people and nature. Striving for harmony between humans and the environment should become a priority for all of us.
